The Permanent Record Series
As readers, we know that incredible stories pop up seemingly every day. But many disappear just as quickly as they arrived—whether in the churn of the social-media cycle, or a magazine being thrown away when the next one is delivered. At Hingston & Olsen, we believe that these pieces deserve forever homes. Our Permanent Record longform series is dedicated to standalone non-fiction features that combine inventive storytelling, careful reportage, and characters and ideas that are worth preserving. We present these stories in hardcover editions to ensure that they will live on long after the newsprint crumbles and the link goes dead.
H&O’s adaptation of Klaszus’s feature is a 64-page hardcover with electric green paper, foil-stamped iconography, and a letterpress-printed title band. It also includes an all-new afterword in which Klaszus receives and responds to “letters to the editor” about the initial report.
The Hollowing of the Calgary Herald is available in a limited run of 500 copies, each of which is hand-numbered and signed by Klaszus, plus a small number of lettered overs.
