The spirit of the Short Story Advent Calendar lives on in Kevin Wilson’s 12 Days of Stories!

For the past decade, H&O’s Short Story Advent Calendar has been a beloved holiday tradition for readers across North America. This year, however, there’s a new gift waiting under the tree.

We couldn’t be more excited to have recruited bestselling author and short-fiction savant Kevin Wilson (Run for the Hills, The Family Fang) to select 12 of his favourite short stories for a new twist on our holiday anthology box set.

Kevin Wilson’s 12 Days of Stories collects a dozen outstanding pieces of short fiction, each attuned to the winter-y state of mind, and each presented in its own individually designed booklet.

“These are gifts that I treasure,” writes Wilson in his introduction, “and I hope that you will feel the same.”

Whether you read the stories one day at a time as a countdown to Christmas, or devour them all in one sitting like a too-tempting box of chocolates, this is the perfect way for bibliophiles to ring in the holiday season.

Kevin Wilson’s 12 Days of Stories includes work by Tyler Barton, Claire Battershill, Lee Conell, Stephanie Dennee, Kali Fajardo-Anstine, Megan Giddings, Charles Haverty, Silas House, Claire Lombardo, Paola Peroni, Rion Amilcar Scott, and Chanel Sutherland, as well as an introduction by Kevin Wilson.

Plus!

As is our wont, we’ve also produced a limited run of slipcases that were hand-painted by the talented Calgary-based designer/illustrator Tori English. There are only 100 numbered copies (plus a few lettered overs) and each one has a unique colour palette and pattern.

Here’s a video of Tori in action.

I leaned into the 12 Days of Stories by considering the month of December, the end of the calendar year, and the cold winter barely hinting at the transformation to come... I chose twelve stories that would help us get through the end of the year, to take stock, and to feel ready to accept the new year, whatever it might bring.
